“Electric Universe” is Eventstellar’s eighth single and the fourth official release from their debut full-length album Strangelet. Recorded in May 2017 at Skógafoss Studio in Reykjavik and The Warehouse Zone in Dublin. The single was produced by Matt Dublin and Manley Brown, with additional production assistance by Graham Ashcome. It was engineered and recorded by Sōun Kanda, mixed by Einar Solheim and Asher Parsons with assistance from Cian Solheim and finally mastered by Thor Linnane.
Background vocals on the lead track were performed by Éowyn Árnadóttir.
Inspired by the electrical phenomena that permeate the cosmos, the single explores the relationship between energy, matter and the forces that shape the universe. Across three compositions, Eventstellar combines atmospheric dream pop and space rock with reflections on cosmic electricity, stellar evolution and the passage of signals through space.
“Electric Universe” opens the release with an imagined cosmos sustained by an endless flow of energy. Through lyrics such as “No redshift trails / No entropy,” the song envisions a universe beyond cosmic expansion and thermodynamic decay. Its luminous textures and melodic progression evoke electric currents, charged particles and the possibility of a celestial order in perpetual motion.
“Electric Universe (Gilmourish Version)” reinterprets the original composition through a warmer, more contemplative atmosphere. Expansive guitar textures and gradual melodic development evoke the slow movement of plasma through interstellar space, where electrically charged particles interact with magnetic fields. The arrangement transforms the original concept into a more reflective journey through the invisible electromagnetic processes of the cosmos.
“Starwaves” closes the single with a dreamlike exploration of distance, isolation and the fading signals of distant stars. Built around minimal rhythms and atmospheric saxophone passages, the composition evokes electromagnetic waves travelling through the vastness of space. The lyrics “No one speaks / No one stays” introduce a human dimension to this celestial imagery, reflecting on loneliness, impermanence and the traces left behind as light continues its journey through the universe.
Together, these three compositions explore the relationship between cosmic energy and human perception, moving from an imagined electrically sustained universe to the distant signals that cross interstellar space. Electric Universe reflects Eventstellar’s fascination with the unseen physical processes of the cosmos and their poetic resonance with memory, solitude and existence.
