“Velvet Sky” is Eventstellar’s thirteenth single, released worldwide through Madelos Music on October 21, 2018. It was recorded from August to September 2018 on Holbox Island, Mexico. With engineering sessions taking place at Skógafoss Studios in Reykjavik, Iceland and The Warehouse Zone in Dublin, Ireland. The single was produced by Matt Dublin, mixed by Canadian engineers Josh G. Bowman & Mike Marra.
Marking a moment of reflection and forewarning, Velvet Sky blends ambient alternative rock textures with folk undertones and lyrical urgency. Across three tracks, the single traverses collective consciousness, ecological tension, and existential longing offering a poetic vision of our world suspended under a soft but ominous sky:
Velvet Sky the title track, contemplates the fragility of modern life through a lens of quiet desperation and subdued beauty. Its verses reflect a shared experience: “a common world,” “a common love,” “a common war”. Inviting listeners to consider how ordinary moments unfold under extraordinary pressures. The sky becomes both a setting and a symbol: “When the future will explode in our hands”. The song whispers not with panic, but with resigned clarity. Under the velvet sky, dreams, routines and crises converge until hope becomes the final refrain.
Blue Horizon (Holbox Version) reinterprets an earlier Eventstellar track with intimate acoustic instrumentation. Inspired by the white sands and cosmic solitude of Holbox Island, this folk version calms everything down. Time dissolves in the sea breeze: “I see in the sky a cosmic dance / And the blue horizon,” sings the narrator, caught between starlight and nostalgia. It’s a meditative retreat, an invitation to look inward while lying beneath the quiet infinity.
Velvet Sky (Nevan Version) introduces a parallel universe within the same song. This alternate rendition is performed entirely by Nevan Lochlann, Eventstellar’s drummer. Whose vocals add a grounded and joyful texture to the original recording. While musically similar, the version carries a distinct energy. More immediate and bit visceral. The lyrics maintain their bleak vision but Nevan’s delivery imbues them with personal urgency. Under the velvet sky, the line between collective memory and individual perception blurs.
Velvet Sky stands as a subtle yet haunting chapter in Eventstellar’s discography, a snapshot of the world at a tipping point, rendered in stardust, shadows, and sound.
