“Love Is a Distant Signal” is the second album by the rock band Eventstellar, released through Norðurljós Music on May 29, 2020. It was recorded between Dublin and Reykjavík in early 2020. The record tells the story of Lyra. A telepathic and clairvoyant woman from planet Earth and Lūrlen a man from a planet in the “Alpha Centauri A” system. Their connection is established across distance through dreams and a recurring signal that precedes any physical encounter.
The album begins with Lūrlen’s sense of absence and disconnection. It then moves through the moment he receives an unknown signal and his decision to leave his world in search of its source. In the album each song represents a step in that process, from distance and longing to arrival. And finally the reunion with Lyra.
The album tells the story across the following songs:
1. In the orbit of her absence
The album opens with Lūrlen alone in his world, dealing with a sense of absence he cannot fully explain. The song introduces the emotional starting point of the story, marked by distance, silence and the feeling of being suspended while waiting for something unknown to respond.
2. Unknown source
Lūrlen becomes aware of a signal he cannot identify or trace. It arrives unexpectedly and begins to disrupt his sense of normality. The song marks the first moment of contact, when distance is no longer silent and something unknown starts demanding attention.
3. Oneiric parallax
The connection shifts into the dream state. Lyra and Lūrlen begin to encounter each other while asleep, sharing the same space despite the distance between their worlds. The song establishes that the signal is no longer abstract, but personal, and confirms for Lūrlen that what he is experiencing is real.
4. Love is a distant signal
This song gives name and meaning to what Lūrlen has been experiencing since the beginning of the album. The signal is identified as love, sent by Lyra across distance and sustained through repetition. It marks the moment when the connection is no longer questioned, but accepted and answered.
5. Perfect timing
Lūrlen recognizes the signal as part of a larger order and understands that the moment to act has arrived. The song reflects his acceptance of a timing that feels guided rather than accidental, marking the point where the connection is no longer distant or theoretical, but something he is meant to follow and commit to, Lyra is waiting for him.
6. Bending the space for you
Now, Lūrlen leaves his world and begins the journey towards Lyra, fully aware of the risks involved. The song functions as a declaration of commitment, where distance is no longer accepted as a limit and the decision to cross it becomes irreversible. It marks the point where intention turns into movement and where the journey itself carries the weight of what is at stake.
7. If fate is kind
During the journey, Lūrlen reflects on what lies ahead. The song captures a moment of quiet anticipation, shaped by hope rather than certainty. It exists in the space between movement and arrival, where the future is imagined but not yet reached and the journey continues guided by trust in what awaits him.
8. Beloved (Lyra feels his arrival)
Back on Earth, the perspective shifts to Lyra. She senses that something has changed and understands that the distance between them is closing. The song captures her emotional readiness to receive him, where anticipation turns into certainty and the signal she sent becomes something she can finally feel approaching.
9. The ballad of Lyra and Lūrlen
This song marks the moment when Lyra and Lūrlen finally meet. It brings their story together, revisiting where each of them comes from and how their connection was formed across distance. The ballad centers on their encounter, their recognition of one another and the union of two different worlds through love. It functions as a summary of their journey, from the first signal to the moment they stand together.
10. Towards the glow
After their reunion, Lyra and Lūrlen prepare to leave Earth and start to travel across the space. The song represents their decision to move forward together, away from what is familiar and toward what lies ahead. With Lyra ready to depart and carrying the beginning of what comes next, the track marks a transition from arrival to departure, guided by the light they choose to follow.
11. Sakura
This song centers on the birth of Sakura, the daughter of Lyra and Lūrlen. It represents a moment of stillness after the journey, focused on new life and the beginning of something shared. The track shifts the album into a quieter space, where movement gives way to care, presence and continuity.
12. Rigil Kentaurus
The album closes with a quiet epilogue focused on Lyra, Lūrlen and their daughter: Sakura. The song looks outward toward Alpha Centauri, framing the union of two worlds as something already settled rather than ongoing. Sakura stands as the point of convergence between both civilizations and the journey resolves into continuity, legacy, and shared future rather than motion.
Love Is a Distant Signal is a story told across distance, silence and choice. It asks whether love can be felt before it is seen. Whether a signal can be stronger than separation. And whether two lives, born under different skies, can move towards the same future.
