“Population III” is Eventstellar’s fifth single and the first official release associated with the band’s debut full-length album, Strangelet. Recorded, mixed and mastered between February and April 2017 at Skógafoss Studio in Reykjavík, Iceland and The Warehouse Zone in Dublin, Ireland, it was produced by Rúnar Sigurðsson and Asher Parsons, mixed by Einar Solheim and mastered by Thor Linnane.

Featuring three tracks, the single explores the origins of the universe, the emergence of the first stars and the mysteries of cosmic evolution. Combining astronomical concepts with philosophical reflection, the release introduces the cosmic themes that would become central to Strangelet.

Population III explores the first generation of stars believed to have formed in the early universe. Composed almost entirely of primordial hydrogen and helium, these ancient stars are thought to have played a fundamental role in the formation of the elements that shaped later generations of stars. Through poetic imagery, the song reflects on their immense energy, brief existence and place in cosmic history.

First Pulse imagines the universe’s first heartbeat, a metaphorical moment when silence gives way to motion and stillness becomes energy. Exploring themes of emergence, transformation and the beginning of existence, the composition approaches cosmic origins through a philosophical perspective.

The Dark Ages is an instrumental composition built around atmospheric textures and cosmic rock soundscapes. Inspired by the period before the first stars illuminated the universe, the track evokes the vast darkness of the early cosmos, creating an atmosphere of isolation, uncertainty and anticipation.

As the first single associated with Strangelet, Population III introduces a more explicitly cosmic dimension to Eventstellar’s music, bringing together scientific inspiration, philosophical questions and the atmospheric character of the band’s early recordings.
